Robert: INI files have always supported subsections, why does that bother you? Also, why does a common repository bother you? How is splitting this into a half-dozen separate files which simply replace a single file become a benefit? Do you really think users are anxiously awaiting the ability to have a customized Mouse.INI and a customized FManager.ini in preference to simply altering a few settings? You're talking a make work project that when complete will have done nothing to improve SPFLite.
Sorry I'm so negative, but we have better things to work on.

What might be nice is: if one changes the defaults the changed .INI is written to THEME AND the original DEFAULT.INI but one does need to have a bit in the docco to say what, when, why you can do with the saved THEME e.g. if you muck up your colour scheme then either copy the original, saved, DEFAULT.ini to replace the knackered one or say which part of the knackered .ini should be replaced by the non-default saved theme.

nicc: I don't think playing with various THEMES should ever get into copying and swapping whole INI files around. The color settings are a very small subset of whats in the INI, I don't think trying to fix the color settings by replacing the whole INI file is too great an idea.
That was the thought behind the THEME .STF files, it was a way to manipulate that small subset without worrying about altering any of the other settings maintained in the main INI file. It was designed to minimize the possible impact. Anything which starts playing with the entire INI file(s) is doing the exact opposite.

I think the best would be a new option:
THEME LOAD THEME CREATE
THEME DEFAULT
Because this was my first thought, after I wanted to go back to the default values again.

George - I did say 'replace the PART' i.e. following instructions, one copies the theme to the relevant PART of the .ini file OR you replace the WHOLE .INI with the saved ORIGINAL .INI

nicc: Oops, skimmed right through that. Sorry.
Jonas: The latest release now ships the DEFAULT.STF file, so adding a THEME DEFAULT would be a trivial change. I'll do that.

The attached is what I have come up with as a basis for enhanced documentation for THEMES. Feel free to plagiarize! Attachments:THEMES_docco.txt (1.57 KB)
