I would like to Edit .AFP-Files. On an IBM Mainframe these files are stored as VBM with a CC of x'5a'. On a S/1 and on DOS these files are just a binary stream without a RDW, but since each record starts with x'5a' I setup a profile with EOL 5A. Most of the File is binary control info, but any visible text is in EBCDIC. Therefore I used SOURCE EBCDIC in my AFP Profile. But I got just one line and the message "Warning, Profile EOL is set to X'5A', file loaded was CRLF". Changed back to SOURCE ANSI and RELOAD and voila! there are all 43 lines. But any text is not readable, blanks are shown as @@@. So I wonder, what have I missed and/or overlooked, what can I do to View & Edit these files. samp.afp (2.84 KB) Jo

Jo: You've done nothing wrong, just uncovered a small bug. I can provide a temp version with a correction, but it contains some of the debugging/trace stuff for the 'going dead' problem. If you're OK with that as a temporary thing, let me know and I'll make it available.

George: Yes, a version with debugging/trace is OK.

Jo: OK try this. www.spflite.com/Files/SPFLite825154.ex_Note remember to set Profile XTABS to 0 since your file contains binary data, you don't want x'09' to be expanded as a TAB character. George
