When I use DIR as primary command in an Edit-Tab (or Browse or View) with or without a file-pattern, it acts like TOP and does not switch to FM nor bring up the directory-listing. When used in a CLIP-Tab, there is no implied TOP, just the expected errormessage "... no folder". DIR as FM linecommand does work as expected. WDIR does work.
I wonder if I ever used this DIR primary command, as I tried it on my XP (yes;-)I still have one), and this SPFLite is V8.2... and did not work either.

Jo: Robert:
Corrected. Obviously broken for a long time, and not reported. As I've said before Robert, there's a ton of stuff in SPFLite that I'm sure nobody uses.
As I'm going through stuff like KB Primitives while working on my latest bunch of changes, there's commands in there that I don't even recognize and have to go read the Help file to find out what they do. I wish there was a way to find out what's really 'in use' and purge the source of all the dead, unused code.
