thx robert...worked great I did run into a problem ..looks like the file is recfm=U and lrecl=0 so the actual message just spans 1 line, so not very readable. I tried changing the profile to recfm f lrecl 80 and opening the file but ofcourse got warning of truncating. is there anyway to convert it, don't care if it splits text in the middle of a word and what section is the do file mentioned in the manual couldn't find it?...thx again

HI Robert when I brought up the file in spflite I got the second screenprint. I just happened to click on the attachment I uploaded you and it came up in notepad and looks good. the messages are in the file I uploaded ...lines 7,11 and 15 in spflite . So bottom line.. the do file worked..thx but still like to know why the data looks different ...attached my profile screen..like I said if I chg it to recfm f lrecl 80 and open it its just gets truncated so is there a way to view the file in spflite so it looks like notepads format?...thx in word looks like this see attach Just testing to see if the list is working. If you have not found the new KCK Newsletter yet, check it out at my home page. It might be useful. And, if you have any new techniques, etc. that you would like to publish, you can publish them there..........carol in spflite looks like this see attached Just testing to see if the list is working. If you have not found the new KCK Newsletter yet, check it out at my home page. It might be useful. And, if you have any new techniques,s, etc. thx and at columns 75 and 147 there is a x'0a' so not recognizing line feed but I changed all my INI files data options to LF for end of line delimiter

hi robert if you click on the middle attachment in my previous post lines 6, 10 and 14 are blank and 7,11 and 15 have just one long message. here's the file htc100.txt (1.05 KB)instead of screen prints. if you put hex on and scroll to the right you'll see the x'0a' at the at columns 75 and 147 if you scroll right at 220 all linefeeds so instead of being on one line is there a way to see it like in the previous post first upload the notepad screenprint hope this helps thx steve

Can you email me with HCT100.txt attached. When I click on the link on the forum, it opens in a window and I have to cut/paste it, which I think is messing up the formatting.
I think this is a file with a mixture of CRLF and LF line delimiters. I think experimenting with EOL settings might help, but I need the actual unmodified original file.

Hi, I guess a limit like that wouldn't be too hard. One new setting( Global? Profile?) and a change in the line command parser should do it. George George, This sounds remarkably like the error I described at the end of my longish "Experience with v2" note, e.g. a single line command like "D" removes a bunch of lines at once. A limit is fudging the issue. For instance, I like being able to enter D99999 to delete the rest of the file, and a limit would be a pain. But I know your not the type who would fudge things, so I'd like to vote for a fix that clears the line number field as soon as a character is typed within it. Preferably regardless of the position in which it is typed.

Stefan: Please don't ignore the line command \ and / operands. You can set a limit repeat value in Options => General and still do the equivalent of a D99999 by entering D/ (/ means - to the end) A D\ deletes backward to the top.
These options 'get around' whatever limit you may have set in Options.
But still, I will see why the field isn't getting blanked, it's sure supposed to do that.
