I was doing a multi-edit session and only the first file was backed up - changes were made to all files. I have creation of BKP files turned off so that file should not have been created. If I did not have BKP files turned off then surely there should have been a BKP for each of the 12 files in the session?

nicc: Just tried MEDIT with three files. Modified them all and then saved and exited. I'm not getting any BKP files created. ? What's the date on the BKP file? Maybe it's from some other time period where AUTOBKUP was ON? George

I deleted the BKP and tried again - same thing. I posted then. I have tried again and, lo and behold, no BKP. But...I was editing from the Recent Files List. The file WAS created in the folder that the original file is in but it does NOT show in the recent files list.

nicc: OK, I'll play some more. The BKP files are never added to the Recent list BTW.

OK - partly my problem as I did NOT have AUTOBKUP set to OFF. However, as I said, I edited 12 files but only the first had a BKP file produced but the same change was made to all 12 files so there should have been 12 BKP files created but here was only the one - for the first file in the list.

nicc: BKP files are created at SAVE time, if you only changed the first of the 12 files, then SAVE would not have been done for the other 11 - no save - no BKP.
Is that a possibility here?

Hi George, I did a 'change all' as the same thing had to be changed in all files. I then F3'd out of the edit (F3 is set to END) and there is only the one BKP file which is for the first file.
I have just repeated the sequence for another change and took screen snips at each stage. These are JPEG files so I will not post them here but if you want to see them I can mail them to you.

I found something else that I could do a mass change for so that I could try soemthing else. I did the change (on the same files) and then issued "SAVE all" and then "end" (no F keys involved) and still only the on .BKP. created which is for the first file in the list.

nicc: OK, I spotted it finally (have to look in the right place). Since BKP is only created for the first SAVE command of an Edit session, a flag is set after it's done so that if you do another SAVE, the 1st BKP file won't get replaced.
I was setting the flag within the loop of MEdit files, rather than after the loop. Thus, once the first BKP got created, the remaining MEdit files got skipped. One of those Duh! errors.
Corrected in the next release.

nicc: No, not just you. Sometimes it takes a while to isolate just what might be involved.
