Has any anyone run into the problem of the AUTO colorization just simply not working ? OR giving weird results ? I am running version 8.5.7231. I'm using the sample AUTO file from the help. And when I open up a COBOL, REXX etc.. program ... My command line is gone, my cursor is down around line 10, hitting <HOME> takes me to the top of the file to what SHOULD be a command line, but again, the command line is just simply not there etc..

Tim: The problem with the sample AUTO files is that many of the values there are set based on a set of 'normal' colors. Depending on what you have chosen for 'normal', the colorize colors may be totally inappropriate, of even 'disappear.
Check the AUTO file, particularly the NORNHI, NORMLO, LINEHI and LINELO values to see if they agree with your 'normal' color scheme.
I'm afraid it's just beyond me to try and provide sample AUTO files that 'work' with all the different color schemes people use. Some like the old 'green screen', some like a white background, some like blue, etc. etc. Add in people's choices for banding colors and it becomes impossible.

Thank you for the update George. I am actually using the same AUTO files as a colleague at the same company. I have a REXX, COBOL, and JCL auto file. When I try to use them, it appears the file is being colorized, but getting odd behavior .. like my COMMAND line disappears - I can go HOME and start typing, but the first couple of characters are invisible, but the command still works. And not everything is colorized. I remove the AUTO.* file and I can get to my command line, but obviously nothing is colored, etc.. Additionally, neither of us have any of the keywords you mentioned in our Auto files.

Tim: If you don't have those keywords, then you have obtained AUTO files from prior to when they were introduced. And guess what - those keywords were introduced to solve exactly the problem you are having. So it's RTFM time - hit the Help Appendix on colorize files and read about those 4 keywords and add them to your AUTO files. I think your problems will just go away.
