Erm... Is this specifically aimed at EFT/SET/CLIP, etc sessions? If not, how does this differ from the BACKVIEW command you asked for? That displays available backups for selectiopn and/or retruurn the requirequested backup version of the file being editied in another tab. From there can CUT/PASTE as much or as little as you want from the backup file to wherever you want.
And I thouht we were using the GDG concept and referring to backup generations as -1, -2, etc.
These are easier to PARSE out of a command line too beause the - (minus) makes them a TEXT lieteral as oppsed to a NUMERIC literal. Many commands already use numeric literals, often in pairs, for things like column numbers, etc.

Robert:
I'm confused (as usual)
If you try to RESTORE a special backup, you should get "Restore is not supported for this file type" (right now there's a typo bug, it doesn't catch SetEdit - now corrected)
I've searched the entire SPFLite source - the message CANNOT RESTORE FILE NAME WITHOUT .EXTENSION doesn't even exist.
You had previously said about there being no restore for the Special backups: What happened?
I don't like the PASTE BACKUP idea at all, I could never picture pasting in a complete copy of the thing I was editing. All it would take is some minor confusion about where you are positioned and it becomes too easy to mess up the whole edit session.
And as for "PASTE BACKUP 0", what's wrong with BACKUP ?

Robert: What did you enter as a Restore command - RESTORE as a command line?
There is no RESTORE command, but I bet you have a RESTORE macro.
There is no such message within the whole SPFLite development folder.

Robert: As to restoring the backup to an actual CLIP/SET/EFT session, Restore of these is simply a totally new hunk of code, they could not share ANY of the existing restore code (which is all oriented to physical files, and restoring timestamps, and handling the STATE files etc. etc.) All to avoid simply Viewing the Backup, and cut/paste what's really wanted into the CLIP/SET/EFT session.
Yes, it's perfectly possible, but ...
I think not. I've got much bigger stuff to handle once EFT is finally out. The USING removal is a significant update.
