I used a font editor to modify the Courier New font to better meet my editing needs. The modified font is called Courier Mod Bold, and as you would imagine, it's a bold font. (I didn't need a regular font because Bold looks better, so I only made a Bold version.) I applied 3 "mods" to this font: 1. The digit 1 is much more "pointy" than it used to be, to help distinguish it from lower case L 2. The digit 0 is much more narrow than it was, to distinguish from upper case O 3. The underscore is thinner and is positioned a little higher than normal. The reason for this is that the standard Courier New underscore was originally designed to be used to allow hardcopy printing that could underline text the way an underline-key could do on a typewriter. Nobody does that anymore, but instead we all use _ as 'connectors' in variable names. For that usage, the Courier Mod underscore is less intrusive and "reads better" IMHO. Hope this is useful. The Courier New font is copywrite © Microsoft Corp. To adhere to that copywrite, you should only install this font on a Windows system in which Courier New is already installed (that would be every Windows system), and then include it only for personal use and not distribute it for sale.
