Hi, I've been reviewing the Doc. for an upcoming release, and have been browsing the whole file, looking for any impacted sections.
I've come across one feature we put in quite a while ago, and I have serious doubts that it is ever used, the "Working with" section describing it is 8+ pages of pretty dense text.
So ... does anyone actually use "Command Chaining" (and Command Chaining does not mean using a ; to separate individual commands, that's totally different).
I wrote the code to support it, and other than testing it, have never used it, or even thought about using it. Being honest, it would simply not come to mind since I'd have to read the whole Help section before attempting it.
I'd really appreciate comments on this. The release I'm working on is a big cleanup release, I'd like to kill this.

I have often thought that SPFLite should maintain "telemetry" data like Windows does. That would be where it actively kept and stored usage data on features. That way, you wouldn't have to keep asking (in vain) if anyone used feature XYZ. You could have a feature that would upload the user's activity stats, probably by email to an address reserved for that purpose.
But, I suspect you'd view this as make-work, so I haven't suggested it until now. As long as you didn't save anything personal, and let people see the collected data, users shouldn't have a big problem with this.

Robert: I had telemetry code installed and working in test versions, but both you and Stefan convinced me to remove it over privacy concerns, since the code had to transmmit data back 'home'.
So we're stuck with begging for feedback.

1.) "Command Chaining": as I remember, this feature is already in place for some years, but I never had a situation to really need it. 2.) telemetry code: the sending could be made optional, as the "Check for SPFLite update". In both cases, just the IP-Address is externalized.

George,
I tried to get to grips with 'command chaining' some years ago, but I gave up trying to understand the 'syntax' for any sequence consisting of more than 2 or 3 commands. The 'learning curve' proved challenging and I doubt I would reliably retain the principles unless I used the function frequently, which was/is unlikely. After a few unsucessful attempts, I concluded that it was not a quick way to 'macronise' a bunch of commands and be certain that each acted only on the intended data lines.
I prefer to knock up a quick macro to do the job, having already invested in learning that 'syntax'.
So, no, I don't use command chaining.

Stefan: Thanks, my feelings exactly.
