Does anyone have a colorize file for COBOL that they would be willing to share ?
Thanks

chaat: There's one in the downloadable colorize files. I'm attaching a revised version - I've been slowly trying to update the files, so this may be somewhat better. George cobol.auto (18.39 KB)

I agree, but just try and get an up-to-date list of keywords for ANY language, it's really tough.

Yeah, I've been doing stuff like that as I try and work through the AUTO sample files, but it's a no-fun exercise. It really needs to be done by someone with a vested interest in a specific language, and wants it correct. It's much tougher than most people think. And of course it also needs some sample programs in the particular language.

Speaking of COBOL, any recommendations for a PC based COBOL compiler? TIA.

I'm using the old IBM Visual Age COBOL compiler, but I only use it for syntax checking my code. I don't generate any executables.
There is a GNUCOBOL compiler which is free and pretty good. Arnold Trembly has a downloadable file for using it in MINGW. There are also instructions on the Source Forge page for generating the GNUCOBOL compiler on Windows using the MS Visual Studio free edition. I've not tried that as I've never done any Visual Studio / C programming.
They are getting very close to releasing a major release 3.0 so it may be worth watching this project.
I've hoping that they have a build service at some point to generate GNUCOBOL with MS VS so that we can just download the executables.

The GNU COBOL is remanence of one of the first COBOL compilers I used, (a cascade compiler), which generated Autocoder source. Then you compiled (assembled) the Autocoder. Very nice, since I was fluent in Autocoder. However, not knowing any PC languages, (C, Visual Studio, etc), this might be challenging for this old mainframer.
Thanks for the suggestions.
