This Beta is withdrawn, replaced by the 23253 full release.
This thread will contain the latest Beta release following the V3.0.23169 production release.
I've created a unique Beta notice based on the Production version so that thread postings from a previous Beta version are not lost nor confused with comments on THIS release.
By Beta, I mean one that is, in my opinion, at least good enough to let other users try it out.
If you download and use one of these Betas, you should take precautions to be able to back off should it prove unstable.
I will try to provide, with every version, any information that may affect switching to the Beta release. When a new Beta completely replaces previous versions, the download link for the previous beta versions will be removed.
If you are running the latest production release, this Beta can simply be swapped in place of the production EXE.
Beta version 3.0.23246
As this Beta contains some significant changes, it would be prudent to back up your CFG file before using this release. I myself am using the same CFG file for both test and production versions with no negative effects - BUT .....
Note: The CFGMaint tool has been revised again. If you picked it up earlier, please pick up the newly revised version below.
CHANGES
* Correct handling FM Line command repeat value that exceeds the size of the current list
* Correct the handling of a MODE xxxx and AUTONAME xxxx Profile overrides in the EFT list.
* Correct File Manager error in not saving the STANDARD / ALTERNATE format setting for each
of the display types. (FilePath, Recent, Favorites, etc.)
* Correct CFGMaint. It was not always actually saving the corrected value for error entries when doing an IMPORT.
* Correct handling of MEdit session re-open at startup to maintain the MEdit file order.
* Correct EFT validation. Blank lines were not being skipped as they should have been.
* LOCATE with 'color' operands has been corrected to handle excluded lines properly.
* LOCATE with LONG operand also received a correction in the command parser.
* Corrections to handling some FM Line commands, and to issuing FM Line commands in macros.
* Correct BACKUP handling of files with no extension.
* Correct allocation of UNDO files for MEdit sessions.
* Prevent internal updating of the EFT table if an actual (EFTEdit) session is running.
* The FM DEFAULT command has been eliminated.
* INSTANCE support has been extended to allow the EFT (Extended File Type)
table to be maintained uniquely by Instance ID.
* An extensive internal revision was done to 'tidy up' the handling of Tab
Creation/Deletion and inter-tab communication. The handling of file Profiles
was also simplified.
* There are new Profile options (and associated Primary commands):
AUTONAME - Defaulted tp NONE, if not NONE it specifies the name of a
different AUTO file to be used for text colorization. (Rather
then the normal Profile Name)
MODE - Defaulted to EDIT. Can be used to specify the type of tab to
be opened when a simple SELECT or LMB click is done on a file
in File Manager. Choices are EDIT, VIEW and BROWSE.
The mode of a current, running Edit session can be altered in any
sequence between EDIT, BROWSE and VIEW.
* The EFT (Extended File Type) support is being extended, and will take over
handling other file type related choices.
** File extensions which should share the DEFAULT profile
** File extensions which should be treated as non-text files
** File extensions which should be Opened by the Windows default app for
that extension
This means the DEFAULT extension list specified in Options => General will
be removed, as well as the no-text list in Options => FM.
To handle this, the entries in the EFT list have new options. The syntax now
has two general forms:
PROFILE Mode
============
eft-mask = prof-name [ ,profile-override-command ] ...
where:
eft-mask - Same as the current EFT support, no change.
prof-name - Name of the profile to use. This also is the same as current EFT support.
profile-override-command - You may specify one or more commands here which will
be used to 'override' the normal values contained in prof-name.
e.g.
EOL LF
SOURCE EBCDIC ... etc.
multiple commands may be entered separated
by commas. This includes the new Profile
options of AUTONAME and MODE.
NONTEXT Mode
============
eft-mask = NONTEXT [ ,OPENWITH { WINDOWS | full-file-path } ]
NONTEXT - Indicates the file specified by eft-mask is a non-text file. If no optional OPENWITH
operand is specified, then File Manager will ignore this file if selected for processing.
OPENWITH WINDOWS - If the optional OPENWITH WINDOWS is specified File Manager will open
the file with the default windows application for that filetype.
OPENWITH full-file-path - If a full-file-path is specified, File Manager will open the file using the
specified application. If the file-path contains spaces, it should be enclosed in
double quotes.
Some examples:
.TXT = DEFAULT - Use the DEFAULT profile for .TXT
.EBC = DEFAULT,SOURCE EBCDIC - EBC files use the DEFAULT Profile, with
SOURCE overridden with EBCDIC
.EXE = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS - EXE files are non-text files and are to
be opened by Windows
.DLL = NONTEXT - DLL files are non-text files. File Manager will ignore them in Find-In-File
searches and will ignore them if selected.
.PDF = NONTEXT,OPENWITH "C:\Windows\. . .\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe"
- Will open the file using the specified file-path
**/Linux/.TXT = DEFAULT,EOL LF,STATE OFF
- Will open all TXT files from the Linux folder using the DEFAULT Profile and
overriding the EOL and STATE settings.
Conversion:
SPFLite will automatically convert your existing DEFAULT SHR settings, and
FM non-text file settings to the new EFT format on the first execution, you
need to do nothing.
