Robert: Thanks. How can you NOT enjoy an all-inclusive cruise? Tomorrow morning will drag, we'll probably wake early and then our airport limo doesn't come until 2:00.

P.S. I ran 23.198, still having win/open issues. I deleted my CFG and copied back the last good one. Still got the open error message. I deleted both .DOC and .DOCX entries in EFT. Clicked on my .DOC file. Got that conflict message about file being both non-text and the OPENWITH message. I click on the WIN OPEN button. The file is not opened. No matter which of the three buttons I click on, the popup message simply goes away and the file is not opened.
===> Also ...
I tried copying a backup CFG from 2022, to completely force a new EFT conversion. Then, tried to open my .DOC file again. Still no.
Hmm ...

Mine is quite a bit longer. In an effort to track this down, I did this:
1. Restore CFG from a 2022 version. 2. Open PROD SPFlite 3. Manually delete .DOC and .DOCX entries in non-text Options GUI 4. Close PROD and open BETA 5. EFT conversion takes place 6. Try to open a .DOC file by clicking on name. 7. Get same messages as before. File will not open.
Here is a copy of my EFT:
; Enter your EFT entries following this line ; The following items were Auto-Converted from old Profile USING entries INC = BAS MACRO = BAS LOG = DEFAULT ; Items below were Auto-Converted from prior DefaultShr & FM exempt file lists .1ST = DEFAULT .2ND = DEFAULT .BKP = DEFAULT .CSV = DEFAULT .DAT = DEFAULT .DATA = DEFAULT .IN = DEFAULT .INI = DEFAULT .KBE = DEFAULT .PBPRJ = DEFAULT .REX = DEFAULT .SOURCE = DEFAULT .SPS = DEFAULT .STATE = DEFAULT .STF = DEFAULT .ULIST = DEFAULT .UNICODE = DEFAULT .VER = DEFAULT .WPL = DEFAULT .BKP = NONTEXT .CHM = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS .CHW = NONTEXT .CI = NONTEXT .DLL = NONTEXT .DLX = NONTEXT .EXE = NONTEXT .EX_ = NONTEXT .HND = NONTEXT .ICO = NONTEXT .ILK = NONTEXT .INL = NONTEXT .KBE = NONTEXT .LNK = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS .MACLIB = NONTEXT .MHT = NONTEXT .OBJ = NONTEXT .PDB = NONTEXT .PDF = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS .RC = NONTEXT .RES = NONTEXT .SLN = NONTEXT .SPC = NONTEXT .SPR = NONTEXT .SPS = NONTEXT .SUO = NONTEXT .UNICODE = NONTEXT .URL = NONTEXT .XML = NONTEXT .ZIP = NONTEXT .DOC = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS

Ran another test to check plain NONTEXT entry. Clicked on an .EXE file. Got warning message about editing non-text. I see buttons, Enter YES to continue loading the file, No to Exit?
(P.S.) It should say "Click", not "Enter", and this line is not a question, so ? not needed.
I click on NO. An open is attempted on the file anyway; clicking "No to Exit" does not exit.
---
P.S.2 : When you get back from lollygagging abroad, I hope I can talk you into a compromise on the EFT format.
For files you simply don't open, I am fine with:
.DLL = NONTEXT
For files that you ARE going to open, could we please dispense with the NONTEXT? Or something?
.MP3 = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS
is a bit much, and it's hard to read. (Really it is, and I have flaky eyes to prove it.) We can chat about specifics later.

OK, turn off your "Warn on Open of Non-Text Files" (OPTIONS -> General). There's obviously something wrong in there.
I'll check it out when I get back.

OK, I will try that.
I am noticing that it keeps opening a file called FULL (no extension), even though the file was NOT currently open the last time I closed down. It just keeping re-opening the file. --- "Warn on open of non-text files" was unchecked. I clicked on an EXE file name. Response: "Profile: NONTEXT load data failed"
It just won't take NO for an answer, literally.
Have a nice trip. Leave this insanity far, far behind :-))
No more beta testing for me, sigh.

Robert: Sorry you seem to be picked on, I can't see anything odd there. I'm using it as my regular version now and haven't seen anything like what you're going through.
But then I don't do anything out of the ordinary.

Robert: OK, had some time while we wait for our Airport ride so I hope I've fixed up the bugs when Warn-on-non-text is active. Hopefully it's better since this is definitely the last fix before we head out.

Some improvements:
1. For the new EFT code, Warn On Non Text isn't as important, and I think most users will leave this unchecked, and then rely on EFT to manage things.
2. I am able to start up EXE and MP3 files with no problem, once that check box is cleared.
3. Code is still insisting that a file called FULL needs to be created and opened, no matter how many times I close and delete it. It's in C:\Program Files (x86)\SPFLite2\FULL. It never finds it, so it creates a zero-length file. Not sure why; I thought missing files upon startup were simply ignored. Why does it think this file is so important. (Guess: It's a bug?)
4. Have fun, take pictures, make us all envious.

MUEH: Hmmm, sorry about that. It's just about impossible to test out all the options. Maybe that's what Beta's are for.
I'll go chase it down.
George
[UPDATE] Well, I should just give up. This was a real Duh! moment.
The whole program startup process is extremely delicate and things have to all be done carefully to handle the different Instances etc. along with some of the other command line overrides. In this case, I just fumbled badly.
I'll post a 230A version of the Beta.

Just a comment about the examples you are showing:
Some examples: .TXT = DEFAULT - Use the DEFAULT profile for .TXT
.EBC = DEFAULT,SOURCE EBCDIC - EBC files use the DEFAULT Profile, with SOURCE overridden with EBCDIC
.EXE = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS - EXE files are non-text files and are to be opened by Windows
1. For the Help, you should put actual ; semicolons on the comments for each example, since they ARE comments, and semicolon is the comment notation.
2. You should mention somewhere that if you have an application with an established ASSOC and FTYPE for it, which is common for things like PDF files, it's not necessary to store the whole path of the application EXE, such as Sumatra PDF (an application I also happen to use, it works quite nicely). When Sumatra installs, it sets up the ASSOC and FTYPE automatically.
All you have to do is say,
.PDF = NONTEXT,OPENWITH WINDOWS

Robert: I was just using Sumatra as an example of how to specify a full pathname. Yes, a normal OPENWITH WINDOWS would also work.
Adding the ; comment ID is wise. I was just using plain text here for the examples, not an actual EFT file extract.

Thanks George for 23230A . It solves start of Instance . I turned now on EFT Table is maintained uniquely and restarted but it always uses EDEFAULT Table on restart instead of f.e EMVS3 Table which had saved values after EFT edit in MVS3 Instance .
One more problem already shown on previous update ( see picture ) If SPFLite is active and you issue a cmd like spflite30.exe C:\Users\MUEH\AppData\Local\Temp\MUSUB\SYS1.NUCLEUS.SARES1.ZOS14Z.G you get Beep and (E)C:\Users\MUEH\AppData\Local\Temp\MUSUB\SYS1.NUCLEUS.SARES1.ZOS14Z.G in cmd line .
Noticed also that Mode must now be before filename . In 23169 it was accepted also after filename but doc examples show Mode before filename .
